“Against The Current” is a poignant 3-minute short film about Yun Xi, born from Lee Yao’s teenage pregnancy and subsequent drug addiction. Raised in an environment tainted by substance abuse, Yun Xi endures her mother’s neglect and her grandmother Cui Xiang’s addiction. After Lee Yao is hospitalized from mixing drugs with alcohol, Yun Xi struggles to escape the cycle. The film concludes with Lee Yao entering rehabilitation through the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB), offering a glimmer of hope amidst the darkness.
