SPACE SHADOW

Team: LENS AFTER DARK
School: Nanyang Polytechnic

“Space Shadow” tells the story of Adam, a young man with a painful past who lost his parents at the age of ten. He was raised by his brother, Ahmad, who sacrificed his own education to work odd jobs and provide for Adam. Lonely and vulnerable, Adam became easily influenced by his peers (Bane, Benson) and tried cannabis for the first time. What began as curiosity and the fear of losing out, quickly spiraled into addiction, leading him to seek stronger highs through Ecstasy and Heroin.

The drugs made Adam feel as if he were floating freely in space, but in reality, his dark side –His Shadow– was slowly taking control. The higher he got, the harder he fell. Eventually, Adam was arrested, he fights for recovery but is haunted at every turn, trapped in a cycle of pain. Simple things like scrolling through social media could trigger painful memories. Even with schoolwork, he struggled to focus, constantly battling the urge that consumed his mind. Stuck in an endless loop, chased by his shadow and longing for freedom, like a bird in a cage.

As his addiction deepened, he relapsed. The consequences extended to his only brother, who ultimately paid the price in a tragic way. But then Adam realizes it has all been a warning from within his own mind. At that moment, he finds the strength to break the cycle, reject the shadow, and guide his friends away from the same fate.

“Space Shadow” is a cautionary tale about the realities of addiction and the dangers of negative influence from peers to social media. It is a story of loss, temptation, and the courage to reclaim freedom while protecting others from the same fate.
