OPEN TO

  • All youths between the age of 12 and 25 (as of the closing date of submission of video entries)
  • Registered students from all secondary schools, international schools, private educational institutions, vocational institutes / ITEs, junior colleges, centralised institutes, polytechnics, and tertiary institutions 
  • Singapore Citizens, Permanent Residents or foreigners residing in Singapore on a valid Singapore Immigration Pass

Theme

"DRUG ABUSE IS NOT VICTIMLESS"

While you are open to explore the theme on your own, here are some sub-themes to guide you along:

a) The domino effect – How one’s choice affects others (drug abuse is more than a personal choice, it affects others in the community and society).

b) Reach a hand out – You can help your loved ones and friends by being a good role model/influence.

c) Embrace your individuality – Make the choice that reflects your values, even in the face of peer pressure.

d) Breaking the chains – Embrace the courage to break free from the grip of drug abuse. 

DrugFreeSG Video Competition 2024 Videography Workshop

In this free videography workshop, participants will learn the following from industry professionals:

1. The basics and essentials of storytelling for short content.
2. The passion, commitment, and responsibility required in crafting a well-developed narrative.
3. How to execute evocative and cost-effective filmmaking using guerilla techniques, and AI, and mobile cinematography.
4. Editing tips, including the various formats for social media.
5. The harmful effects of drugs and drug abuse.

Kyle Ong

Kyle Ong, a Singaporean filmmaker and podcaster, brings a decade of expertise in film, photography, and podcast production. He debuted as a director in 2017 with Discovery Channel’s #NoFilter, and his portfolio spans diverse projects, including a TV documentary series on Singapore’s Paralympic team for the Tokyo 2020 games.

Kyle’s works explore the dichotomy of life and death, from vanishing traditions to the literal concept itself, showcased in his acclaimed NYFA multi-nominated documentary, 148: Shangri-La Confectionery, and the screened horror short, Closing Time.

Kyle’s passion for storytelling extends beyond the screen. He is the Executive Producer and Co-Creator of one of Southeast Asia’s most popular English horror podcasts, Ghost Maps, which boasts over 2 million downloads.

Josiah Ng

Josiah Ng headed the video department at Mothership, Singapore’s leading digital news site, guiding a team to produce editorial video content that seeks to inform, inspire, and intrigue.

Prior to his role at Mothership, Josiah led the film and social content division at DDB Group Singapore, and helped produce 2 seasons of free-to-air drama series, 2 telemovies, and 6 narrative short films during his tenure.

Josiah is also the recipient of the Rising Star at Hall of Fame 2016 (Institute of Advertising Singapore), adding to his growing list of prestigious awards such as the Ngee Ann Kongsi Gold Medal, Cathay film prize, and Shaw Foundation Gold Medal.

The theme for the DrugFreeSG Video Competition 2024 is ‘Drug Abuse is not Victimless’, where drug-related problems have a devastating impact not only on abusers themselves but also their loved ones. It is thus important to examine all aspects of drug abuse. Here are some sub-themes to guide participants along.

Participants are encouraged to create videos that align with this theme and showcase their creativity and storytelling abilities.

This competition is open to all youths between the age of 12* and 25 years old (as of the closing date of submission of video entries, 30 August 2024).

Yes, definitely! Participants may either form a team of up to 5 persons or participate in the competition alone.

Only participants who are eligible for participation in the competition as per the Rules & Regulations should be included in the submission. Those who assisted the team can be credited in the video’s ending credits, if they did not meet the age criteria, or if the team has exceeded 5 persons.

Video submitted should be up to 3 minutes only, excluding credits. Teams will be disqualified if their submitted entry do not meet the stipulated duration.

Submission of your video for the competition must be done via the online form on the competition microsite (drugfree.sg). We do not accept any other form of submissions.

Please note that your video should be submitted in .mp4 or mov format. Alternatively, you may provide a downloadable WeTransfer link of your video.

WeTransfer is a platform that allows users to send their files up to 2GB for free. For more information, please visit here.

Go to the WeTransfer’s home page to get a download link from WeTransfer. Simply click on the three dots icon (…), and you will see the option to get a transfer link. After adding your video file, click on the ‘Transfer’ button to generate a link.

Once the upload finishes, copy and paste that link into our online form to submit your entry!

Thank you for your participation! Our panel of CNB officials and judges (as appointed by the Organiser) will shortlist 5 winning entries per category. You will be contacted via email if your video is shortlisted.

DrugFreeSG Video Competition 2023 Videography Workshop

Guest speakers Jaze Phua and Derrick Lui shared insights into Singapore’s media industry as well as some tips and tricks for creating engaging videos, while CNB Officers spoke about the harmful effects of drug abuse in Singapore.

We were also happy to have Associate Professor Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, Minister of State, Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of National Development with us!
